Come And See

Destiny

Copyright 1983.

I wrote this song 'To my wife, whenever I should find her.' It was before I'd met my wife, but it rings true to the woman God had in store for me. Being one of my earlier works, it was still somewhat depressing, but has hope also. We worked this up as a duet.

Lyrics

Verse1:
Was it so long ago, my Love?
Those tales of a Truth that never died?
The Word that's lived two thousand years
And the Love that it gives inside?

Chorus:
Was it Destiny that I should learn
Of a love so true, and so unearned?
Could I be true forever, too?
I'm sure I know, for I found you!

Verse2:
Those stories I read in my childhood
Of virtue, valor, and fidelity
Did fairy tales like that come true?
Was that kind of world meant to be?

Chorus:
Was it Destiny that I should find
That a love like that was rare and blind?
Did I lose faith or hope or trust,
When I saw all I'd built crumble into dust?

Verse3:
The world that I know is of sin and pain
A world full of people lacking joy
Can't we trust in a Living Lord
We tried but could not destroy?

Chorus:
Was it Destiny that I would run
Into your arms when you'd just begun
To realize the love you sought
Was a gift that God Himself had wrought?

Verse4:
Is there a hope for a better home?
Can people live in harmony?
Have we a chance to show our love
To our friends and posterity?

Chorus:
Was it Destiny that I should be
So indebted and yet still so free?
I owe you everything I am
For that is God's command.
